How to deploy an app you built with ChatGPT
ChatGPT can write a whole app, but the chat window can’t put it online for you. Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent that comes with ChatGPT, works inside your project folder and can. With one Project3000 prompt it packages and uploads your app; you click Deploy.
In short: open Codex on your project folder, paste the Project3000 prompt from your dashboard, approve its steps, then click Deploy. Your app is live on an HTTPS link with a database included, from $9.90 per month.
Before you start
- Your app's code in a folder on your computer (built with ChatGPT or Codex).
- Codex installed and signed in.
- A Project3000 account. Creating one takes a minute.
Deploy your Codex project, step by step
- Create your account at project3000.io with Google or email, and set up two-factor sign-in (it takes a minute).
- Choose a package and create the app. Its name becomes its address:
your-name.apps.project3000.io. - Save the code ChatGPT wrote into one folder, then open that folder in Codex, with approval turned on, so it asks before it runs each command. The “See how” links in the dashboard show where both settings are.
- Copy the prompt from your dashboard and paste it into Codex. It reads your project, adds the two files Project3000 needs (a Dockerfile and a
manifest.json), connects the app to its included database and cache, and uploads it. Approve each step when Codex asks. - Click Deploy. Your app goes live on its own HTTPS link and runs as two copies on separate servers. Share the link with anyone.
Tips for Codex projects
- If ChatGPT gave you the code in the chat, save each file into one project folder first, keeping the file names and folders it used.
- Keep approval on (“Ask for approval”). In fully automatic modes Codex decides by itself, and it may refuse to send files to an outside address, so the upload never arrives.
- In the Codex app, check the folder name above the message box before you paste the prompt. In a terminal, run
codexfrom inside the folder. - Codex runs the same validator our servers use before it uploads, so most problems are fixed before you click Deploy.
